Posting on social media is no longer fashionable: users are leaving their screens behind.

A Morning Consult study reveals a shift in habits: time spent on social media and, especially, the frequency with which content is shared online is decreasing. In a society dominated by new technologies and social media, users seem increasingly connected to their mobile phones, a trend that shows no signs of stopping. But the question arises: has the habit of posting content daily slowed down or is it still increasing? Perhaps the answer lies in learning to put your phone on "vacation mode" from time to time. A Morning Consult survey reveals that 28% of American adults who use social media are posting less content than a year ago, compared to 21% who do so more frequently. The rest are maintaining the same pace or whether their behavior has influenced their sharing of content. Who is posting less on social media? Regarding gender, the balance among men is almost even: 27% post more and 26% less, while 43% maintain the same level of activity. But there is a group that has increased their disinterest in posting content on their social media. Women, on the other hand, show a more marked gap: 30% say they post less, almost double the 16% who have increased their posts. There are very clear differences between generations. Among Generation Z, 33% have reduced their posts, slightly exceeding the 30% who have increased them. Millennials are more engaged and tend to post more (29%), while 27% post less. On the other hand, 27% of Generation X have reduced their tendency to share information, but 19% have increased their activity. Finally, among baby boomers, the figure has grown to 8%, while 28% do so less than before. Not sharing daily life on social media is beneficial for people, as it reduces the total time spent using these platforms. The percentage of working-age adults who spend at least three hours a day on social media decreased 6.5 points compared to last year, standing at 30%. The most striking figure falls on people between 31 and 49 years old, where only 27% spend more time in front of screens, specifically more than three hours a day. In contrast, 45% of these people still barely use them. The study was conducted in May of this year among American adults, including 1,737 people who regularly use social media. More and more people feel the need to not share everything they do online. And this is very healthy for the mind, as it allows them to enjoy the moment more or maintain greater privacy. Posting so much is no longer fashionable; the trend is that social media is used more for observing than for showing off.
